And the Winner Is...

The 2017 PBS Online Film Festival has come to a close and the results are in. Of the official film selections of 2017, “Maria” and “You Can Go” won over the Online Film Festival viewers and this year's jury members. “Maria,” presented by PIC, takes home the film festival’s Most Popular Film award and “You Can Go,” presented by NBPC, wins PBS’s Juried Prize.

From a poignant story about a family looking to their matriarch following the loss of a child (“Maria”), to a tense dialogue between a high school student and school administrator navigating mental health and gun violence (“You Can Go”), the short films featured in this year’s festival have explored tough topics, taken us through history, brought us fantastical narratives and uncovered heroes in our own communities. With animation, live action and documentary shorts, every film brought something special to the festival this year.
